Bth frms cme frm China. Hw they spread arund the wrld ffers a clear picture f hw glbalizatin wrked. The wrds that sund like “cha” spread acrss land, alng the Silk Rad. The “tea” - like phrasings spread ver water, by Dutch traders bringing the nvel leaves back t Eurpe.
The term cha is Sinitic(汉语语系), meaning it is cmmn t many varieties f Chinese. It began in China and made its way thrugh central Asia, eventually becming “chay" in Persian. That is n dubt due t the trade rutes f the Silk Rad, alng which, accrding t a Cha discvery, tea was traded ver 2,000 years ag. The Japanese and Suth Krean terms fr tea are als based n the Chinese cha, thugh thse languages likely adpted the wrd even befre its westward spread int Persia.
But that desn't accunt fr “tea”. Chinese character fr tea, is prnunced differently by different varieties f Chinese, thugh it is written the same in them all. But in the Minnan variety f Chinese, spken in the castal prvince f Fujian, the character is prnunced “te”. The key wrd here is “castal" .
The “te” frm used in castal - Chinese languages spread t Eurpe via the Dutch, wh became the primary traders f tea between Eurpe and Asia in the 17th century. The main Dutch prts in east Asia were in Fujian and Taiwan, bth places where peple used the “te” prnunciatin. The Dutch East India cmpany's expansive tea imprtatin int Eurpe gave us the French “the”, the German “Tee”, and the English “ta”.
Yet the Dutch were nt the first t Asia. That hnr belngs t the Prtuguese. And the Prtuguese traded nt thrugh Fujian but Maca, where “ch” is used. That's why Prtugal is a pink dt in a sea f blue.

D we still need cash? The days f hlding dllar ntes in ur hands may be numbered. The advancement f technlgy f new electrnic and mbile devices in tday's wrld is set t revlutinize hw we make payments. With a swipe f a card r a click f a mbile- phne app, ur entire wealth is literally at ur fingertips. As digital frms are increasingly replacing cash payments, sme think that we shuld becme fully cash free. Hwever, I d nt believe we shuld mve twards a cmpletely cash-free sciety.
One f the main cncerns f a cashless wrld is the risk f fraud (欺诈) and irnically, the incnvenience that fllws. Numerus incidents in recent years have warmed us that the digital wrld is nt cmpletely safe, especially with regard t persnal infrmatin parked nline which are easily traceable. In additin, many nline shpping sites lack strng fraud deterrence (威慑) systems that wuld prtect their clients' persnal credentials. In a cashless sciety, a victim f fraud wuld find himself lcked ut f his accunt and unable t access his funds until the case is slved.
Anther reasn we shuld nt mve twards cmpletely cashless is that mankind might ptentially becme less thrifty. As it is, payments with credit cards have already eased that psychlgical pain smewhat.
Prpnents f a cashless sciety agree that cash-free transactins(交易)culd ptentially reduce inequality in sciety by making financial transactin mre transparent and reducing crruptin, thus benefiting the pr. Hwever, despite this prmise, we cannt chse t ignre the fact that a large prprtin f pr peple in the develping wrld depend n cash t buy everyday gds such rice and vegetables that are priced at minute amunts. It des nt make ecnmic sense t hst such transactins n a netwrk.
The idea f sciety eventually ging cmpletely cashless is a very real, even an exciting ne. Hwever, t safeguard the interests f all users, it is better t reduce ur enthusiasm - perhaps t be a less-cash sciety rather than a cmpletely cashless ne is a mre reasnable ptin.
28. What d we knw abut cashless wrld accrding t the passage?
A. Cashless wrld has n risk f fraud.
B. All peple dn't supprt the idea f cashless payment.
C. Online shpping sites manage t prtect their clients' secrets.
D. Peple will get mre psychlgical pain when paying with credit cards.
29. What des the underlined wrld “prpnents" in paragraph 4 mean?
A. Oppnents.B. Supprters.C. Cmpetitrs.D. Leaders.
30. What is the best title fr the passage?
A. N Cash, N BenefitB. Cashless Wrld
C. A Revlutin f PaymentD. Ging against the Cashless Wave
