All human societies play games. Kicking a ball can be found everywhere whether just a ball of cloth, or a skin stuffed__with feathers or air.
But complex games and team sports have tended to arise in big civilizations—the higher the cultural level of a society, the greater the complexity of interaction, and hence perhaps the more complex the forms of sport.
This is not always the case. The ancient Greeks, for example, preferred individual not team sports. But in China for well over 2,000 years, people played the game of “kickball”—cuju. The members were often young men from wealthy families though there were also professional kickballers, whom you could stick with in your team as sleepers.
Cuju was played as entertainment at court banquets or the reception of foreign ambassadors. Even emperors played kickball.
As you'd expect in a Confucian society, kickball clubs were keen on the key qualities of mercy and courtesy. A great player was one who showed “the spirit of the game”. The “Ten Essentials of Kickball” included respect for other players, polite behaviors and team spirit. There was to be no ungentlemanly behavior, no dangerous play, and no hogging(独占) the ball. In other words, as we used to say, “Play up and play the game.”
What a contrast with the ancient Greek athletics where only victory counted and if that needed gamesmanship, or cruel professional fouls(犯规), then so be it.
As a way of national culture protection, cuju was listed into the first batch of China's intangible cultural heritages(非物质文化遗产) in 2006.
( )24. What does the underlined phrase “stuffed with” mean in Paragraph 1?

A. Sleepers. B. The rich young men.
C. Emperors. D. The professional athletes.
( )27. What is the fifth paragraph mainly about?
A. Kickball's popularity. B. Kickball's development.
C. Kickball's importance. D. Kickball's characteristics.

Cybersecurity firm Lucideus Tech has launched SafeMe, a cyber risk assessment app with versions aimed at regular users, enterprises and their senior executives.
“Our ‘Safe’ product, which we launched three years back, provides the cyber risk status for your organization, all the way down to every single laptop, every single router(路由器), every database, every cloud instance,” said Saket Modi, cofounder and CEO of Lucideus Tech.
When a regular user opens the “SafeMe” app, they will see a score has been given to them about their cybersafety risk. The ratings are from zero to five; the lower the rate, the higher the risk. The app also does a risk assessment for the device, and highlights if the user needs to update the OS(操作系统), if the device is secure, etc. It also shows the user a list of damaged passwords which is linked to their email ID, including the password that got leaked.
Modi says the app will remain adfree and it does not require any special permissions in order to show this risk assessment. The app will also let regular users take safety courses to improve their safety score. The more tests one answers in a correct way, the better their score becomes.
Enterprises on other hand will be able to design and run their own safety campaigns in order to improve the security risks of their employees. “Even today, the largest of the Fortune 500 companies around the world don't have any personalized module for cybersecurity protection of their employees. So what we are trying to do with SafeMe is give you a personal assistant, and you can count on it when it comes to knowing your own cybersecurity risk status,” he said.
Modi pointed out that with COVID19 pandemic(流行病) and more employees working from home, the difference between professional workspace and personal space has disappeared. “So our application can give users and employees first hand visibility of their own risk status,” he added.
( )28. What's the author's main purpose in writing the text?
A. To design safety products. B. To promote the app SafeMe.
C. To assess cybersecurity risk. D. To teach app users how to be safer.
( )29. What could SafeMe do according to the text?
A. Help the users to update the OS.
B. Offer scores about cybersafety risk.
C. Instruct users to use popular applications.
D. Protect the passwords from being leaked.
( )30. Which of the following word can best describe SafeMe?
A. Expensive. B. Risky. C. Complex. D. Practical.
( )31. From which is the text probably taken?
A. A science fiction. B. A research paper.
C. An IT magazine. D. A computer textbook.

More than 45,000 years ago, by the shore of presentday Tasmania, a local person picked up a large piece of thick, dark brown seaweed. And he realized that this giant piece of seaweed could be used to make a watertight bag. And 45,000 years later on mainland Australia, people are again turning to seaweed to solve pressing problems. Today, it is used to address the world's climate crisis.
Winberg, a marine ecologist at the University of Wollongong, has spent decades studying seaweed. She believes seaweed's fast growth rate and ability to absorb vast amounts of carbon dioxide can help fight climate change, deacidify(降低酸度) the oceans, and change the way we farm, not just in the oceans but also on land.
“If we used the infrastructure we have in the ocean and created seaweed islands, we would actually get rid of many climate change issues we have today,” says Winberg. Realizing seaweed's potential as a climate solution, Winberg opened Australia's first landbased, commercial seaweed farm in 2013. On her farm in New Wales, Winberg produces seaweed extracts(提取物) that are used in food, cosmetics and medicines.
Like plants on land, seaweed absorbs CO2 and grows biomass(生物量). Coastal marine systems can absorb carbon at rates up to 50 times greater than forests on land, according to Emily Pidgeon, senior director of strategic marine initiatives at Conservation International. Globally, seaweeds are thought to absorb nearly 200 million tons of CO2 every year—as much as New York State's annual emissions. And when the seaweed dies, much of the carbon locked up in its tissues is transported to deep oceans.
By raising pH levels in the ocean, seaweeds also improve growing conditions for shellfish such as oysters and mussels, whose shells become more fragile(脆弱的) in acidic environments.
The potential for seaweed cultivation doesn't stop in the oceans. Winberg has found there are benefits to doing it on land too. She believes that seaweed farming offers “huge potential” to not only address the climate crisis, but also feed a growing population in a sustainable way. According to Winberg, one hectare(公顷) of a seaweed farm can produce more protein than the same amount of land used for cattle. “We're sitting on undiscovered, renewable, sustainable resources,” she says.
( )32. What is mainly introduced about seaweed in Paragraph 1?
A. Its use. B. Its history. C. Its origin. D. Its appearance.
( )33. Why is seaweed spoken highly of according to the text?
A. It lowers the ocean temperature directly.
B. It contributes to shellfish's growing speed.
C. It produces the same amount of protein as cattle.
D. It grows fast and can absorb carbon at a high rate.
( )34. What is Winberg's attitude towards seaweed?
A. Unclear. B. Favorable. C. Critical. D. Doubtful.
( )35. What is the best title for the text?
A. CO2, a Killer of Climate Change
B. Pollution, the World's Climate Crisis
C. Seaweed, a Potential Climate Solution
D. Infrastructure, a Way of Eliminating Climate Issues

第二节(满分25分)
阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。
It was one of those days when nothing seemed to go right. I dragged myself out of the bed and all of the routines began early. I dropped my two older children at school with relief and unwillingly headed to the supermarket to buy groceries with my youngest. I wasn't feeling any sense of appreciation for my comfortable home or lovely family.
I was getting mad with this early day, and my son, just four years old at that time, was being difficult. I raced around to pick the items with no regard to cost, while trying to control my naughty child whose behavior had now added to my complete displeasure. Yes, I was that mother, threatening, and roaring at a small child.
We eventually made it to the checkout and stood in the queue waiting for our turn. After a short time, I noticed that someone had joined the line behind us. I turned and saw an old man. He wore a dirty overcoat. His shoes were worn out, and his trousers tapped around sockless ankles on this cold, wet day. In his hands he just carried a small box of longlife milk.
I had too many groceries. I asked him if he'd like to go ahead of me. It wasn't an act of kindness on my part, also not my automatic reaction. Perhaps I just did out of a sense of guilt, or I just wanted him gone. After all, his presence made me uncomfortable. In the same way, I felt uncomfortable and avoided my eyes when passing a homeless person.
He didn't respond to me as if I had said nothing to him. I looked at him and repeated my words. This time, I was sure that he had heard what I said.

第四部分 写作
第一节
Dear Tony,
I am glad to receive your letter asking for information about the evening classes. Following are the details that may help you better understand them.
The reason why we have evening classes is that we have to face the pressure of Gaokao. Everyone has to make full use of every minute to study well. Besides, we can finish our homework more effectively while staying at school. When we have evening classes, we can either go over what we have learned in the daytime or take some tests.
Though some students possess opposite opinions, most of us are in favor of the evening classes. After all, time and tide wait for no man.
Best wishes!
Yours,
Li Hua

Helookedsurprisedanduncertain. He asked me quietly, “Madam, I possibly couldn't do it. Are you sure?”“Sure!” I confirmed, nodding at him unwillingly. He went ahead slowly, paid for the milk, and took his change. Then, to my amazement, he turned to my child and pressed the change into his hand. Without any more words, he turned around and disappeared into the crowds. Seeing this, a sense of guilt flooded into my mind. I looked around anxiously, hoping that he hadn't walked away.
Ihadtofindhimandgavebackthechange. Out of the supermarket, an old man with a dirty overcoat and sockless ankles caught my attention. I ran to him quickly, pressing back the change into his hand with a big bag of bread for his kindness. I hurried away before he expressed his thanks. At this moment, my guilt gave way to the relief. Also, I felt comfortable about my home, family, and even my life, rather than being mad. A gentle breeze softly kissed me. I went home with my lovely child happily as well as gratefully.
