Yur first big-screen experience is likely t have been Disney prductins---whether we are talking abut Snw White and the Seven Dwarfs r Frzen---that have lng been cnsidered safe, healthy chices fr kids, and pictures that parents can feel they dn't need t screen in advance.
When yu are a big persn, a mvie seen in a theatre is much larger than life; when yu're a little persn, it can be like a new entry pening in the universe. Thse experiences matter, and Disney knws the pwer---and the prfit ptential---f what's in its values, which helps explain the studi's nging strategy f remaking its mst ppular animated films, ften in live-actin versins.
Hw d yu feel abut directr's interpretatin f these mvies, a cmbinatin f live-actin filmmaking techniques, virtual-reality methds and cmputer-generated imaginary, depends largely n hw yu feel abut the riginal. The stries, even with a gently updated scrip, are rughly the same, If yu’ve seen the riginal, yu knw hw the rest f them g.
In the fllwing years, we'll als watch ther Disney's remakes such as Mulan. Any children raised by Disney films wuld think that this is a great time t be alive. Right?
But judging by critics' ratings f sme live-actin mvies, it seems that the pwerful studi has been unable t ww audiences.
S why mre live actins?
The mney
Let's face it: Walt Disney Pictures is all abut generating mre revenue. Even thugh it did nt manage t capture critics, it still managed t catch the audience's hearts. And that is mre than enugh. After all, films are nt made t entertain critics; it's all abut creating an ultimate cinematic experience fr casual mviegers. And as lng as they’re entertained with new interpretatins f belved stries, why stp making live-actin films?
Inclusin
When yu spend yur entire childhd dancing and singing alng t these characters, it's beynd magical t see them again when yu' re an adult and are the same age as them. That's ne f the few magical effects f mvies. Nt t mentin, Aladdin's Suth Asian cast is als a strng statement fr the wrld. Perhaps this is als the reasn why Disney wants Mulan t have an all Asian cast. Let's hpe they're nt the nly nes and Disney is bringing mre diverse stries t be tld.
Nstalgia (怀旧)
Al f these Disney remakes are designed t fuel the nstalgia f bmers, Gen X-ers and millennials, and many f the mviegers wh grew up with these mvies, in particular, nw have yung kids f their wn. Little wnder the studi is seeing big dllar signs in them.

Pincchi may be just a children's fairy tale, but Spanish scientists at the University f Granada recently investigated the s-called “Pincchi effect" and fund that ur nses dn't grw when we tell a lie, but actually shrink a bit.
Dr Emili Gómez Milán and his team develped a lie detectr test that used thermgraphy t tell if peple were lying, and fund that whenever participants in their research were being untruthful, the temperature f the tips f their nses drpped up t 1.2C, while the temperature f their frehead increased up t 1.5C. Scientists als fund that drp in temperature at nse level actually caused it t slightly shrink, althugh the difference is undetected by the human eye.
"One has t think in rder t lie, which rises the temperature f the frehead," Dr. Gómez Milán explained the findings. “At the same time we feel anxius, which lwers the temperature f the nse."
Fr this study, researchers asked a number f 60 students t perfrm varius tasks while being scanned by thermal imaging technlgy. One f these tasks invlved calling a3 t 4 minutes call t their parents, partner r a friend and telling a significant lie. Participants had t devise the lie themselves during the call, and the thermal cameras picked up this “reverse Pincchi effect" caused by the fluctuatin (起伏) in temperature in the nse and frehead.
Interestingly, the thermal lie detectr picked up the temperature difference in 80 percent f test subjects, which is a better rate f success than that f any mdern lie detectr.
“With this methd we have achieved t increase accuracy and reduce the ccurrence f "false psitives', smething that is frequent with ther methds such as the plygraph (测谎仪),”said Dr. Emili Gómez Milán, wh added that law enfrcement interviewers culd ne day cmbine ther lie detectin technlgy with thermal imaging t achieve better results.
The thermal lie detectr has been the mst reliable in the wrld, 10% mre than the ppular plygraph.

C. T intrduce a research. D. T inspire us t dubt ld beliefs.

A. Yur nse gets lnger. B. Yur nse becmes smaller.
C. Yur temperature gets higher. D. Yur temperature remains stable.
63. What can we learn abut the research?
A. Researchers cnduct the study by interviewing.
B. Researchers design different lies fr participants.
C. The thermal lie detectr will prve a ppular ne.
D. The thermal lie detectr may assists law enfrcement.
64. Which might be the best title fr the passage?
A. Will lie detectrs tell the truth?
B. Will lying make yur nse lnger?
C. Will lying make yur temperature rise?
D. Will thermal imaging technlgy be reliable?
D
Fr peple mving t Australia, Price (2001) has identified certain values which may give rise t cultural shck. Firstly, he argues that Australians place a high value n independence and persnal chice. This means that a teacher r curse tutr will nt tell students what t d, but will give them a number f ptins and suggest they wrk ut which ne is the best in their circumstances. It als means that they are expected t take actin if smething ges wrng and seek ut resurces and supprt fr themselves.
Australians are als prepared t accept a range f pinins rather than believe there is ne truth. This means that in an educatinal setting, students will be expected t frm their wn pinins and defend the reasns fr that pint f view and the evidence fr it.
Price als cmments that Australians are uncmfrtable with differences in status and hence idealize the idea f treating everyne equally. An illustratin f this is that mst adult Australians call each ther by their first names. This cncern with equality means that Australians are uncmfrtable taking anything t seriusly and are even ready t jke abut themselves.
Australians believe that life shuld have a balance between wrk and leisure time. As a cnsequence, sme students may be critical f thers wh they perceive as ding nthing but study.
Australian cncepts f privacy mean that areas such as financial matters, appearance an relatinships are nly discussed with clse friends. While peple may vlunteer such infrmatin, they may dislike smene actually asking them unless the friendship is firmly established. Even then, it is cnsidered very implite t ask smene what they earn. With lder peple, it is als rude t ask hw ld they are, why they are nt married r why they d nt have children. It is als implite t ask peple hw much they have paid fr smething. unless there is a very gd reasn fr asking.
Khls (1996) describes cultural shck as a prcess f change marked by fur basic stages. During the first stage, the new arrival is excited t be in a new place, s this is ften referred t as the "hneymn" stage. Like a turist, they are interested in all the new sights and sunds, new smiles and tastes f their surrundings. They may have sme prblems, but usually they accept them as just part f the nvelty (新奇事物). At this pint, it is the similarities that stand ut, and it seems t the newcmer that peple everywhere and their way f life are very much alike. This perid f euphria may last frm a cuple f weeks t a mnth, but the letdwn is inevitable.
During the secnd stage, knwn as the “rejectin" stage, the newcmer starts t experience difficulties due t the differences between the new culture and the way they were accustmed t living. The initial enthusiasm turns int annyance, frustratin, anger and depressin, and these feelings may cause peple t reject the new culture s that they ntice nly the things that cause them truble, which they then cmplain abut. In additin, they may feel hmesick, bred, withdrawn during this perid as well.
Frtunately, mst peple gradually learn t adapt t the new culture and mve n t the third stage, knwn as “adjustment". During this stage a transitin ccurs t a new ptimistic attitude. As the newcmer begins t understand mre f the new culture, things make mre sense and the culture seems mre familiar. As a result, they begin t develp prblem-slving skills, and feelings f disrientatin (迷失方向) and anxiety n lnger affect them.
In Khls's mdel, in the furth stage, newcmers underg a prcess f adaptatin. They have settled int the new culture, and this results in a feeling f directin and self-cnfidence. They have accepted the new fd, drinks, habits and custms and may even find themselves enjying sme f the very custms that bthered them s much previusly. In additin, they realize that the new culture has gd and bad things t ffer and that n way is really better than anther, just different.

Many f tday's yung peple have a difficult time seeing any mral dimensin t their actins. There are a number f reasns why that's true, but nne mre imprtant than a failed system f educatin that avids teaching children the traditinal mral values that bind Americans tgether as a sciety and a culture. That failed apprach, called “decisin-making," was intrduced in schls 25 years ag. It tells children t decide fr themselves what is right and what is wrng. It replaced “character educatin", which didn't ask children t reinvent the mral wheel, but encuraged them t practice habits f curage, justice and self-cntrl.
Decisin-making curriculums pse ethical dilemmas t students, leaving them with the
impressin that all mrality is prblematic and that all questins f right and wrng are based n
peple's wn ideas. Yungsters are frced t questin values and virtues they've never acquired in the first place. The assumptin behind this methd is that students will arrive at gd mral
cnclusins if they are given the chance. But the actual result is mral cnfusin.
This kind f mral cnfusin is further encuraged by values- educatin prgrams that are little mre than curses in self-wrth. These prgrams are based n the questinable assumptin that a child wh feels gd abut himself r herself wn't want t d anything wrng. But it is just as reasnable t make an ppsite assumptin: namely, that a child wh always believes in and accepts himself will cnclude that he r she can't d anything bad.
Such naive (无知的) self-acceptance results mstly frm the nn-directive nn-judgmental,
as-lng-as-yu-feel-cmfrtable-with-yur-chices mentality that has reached public educatin fr the last tw and ne-half decades. Many f tday's drug educatin. sex educatin and
values educatin curses are based n the same philsphy that helped fuel the explsin in teen drug use and sexual activity in the first place. Yungsters are leaving schl believing that matters f right and wrng are always merely prblematic. If yu pass a stranger n the street and decide t murder him because yu need mney ---if it feels right---yu g with that feeling. Clearly murder is nt taught in ur schls, but such a cnclusin--- just abut any cnclusin can be reached and justified using the decisin making methd.
It is time t thrw “decisin-making" and nn-judgmentalism” int the rubbish heap f failed plicies and return t a prved methd. Character educatin prvides a much mre realistic apprach t mral frmatin. It is built n an understanding that we learn mrality nt by debating it but by practicing it.
