Food and travel are the most delightful combination; food and anything, honestly. The unique features and differences in food around the world reflect the culture of each place. We know some of the world's top restaurants. These restaurants will have your mouth watering from the moment you enter. Let's begin our culinary (烹饪的) journey…
    Osteria Francescana, Modena, Italy
This three-Michelin-star restaurant is rooted in Italian tradition and true Italian culinary art. There are only twelve tables in the restaurant. The restaurant, from tablecloths to the artwork and atmosphere, has been carefully constructed to add and create an experience unlike any other. The twelve-course tasting menu and wine pairing will transport you into an Italian dream; however, single courses are available, too. From the five ages of Parmigiano Reggiano to tortellini, ox rib eye or lobster in a double sauce, you will enjoy your visit.
El Celler de Can Roca, Girona, Spain
This restaurant, opened by the Roca brothers, holds three Michelin stars and has held its place as the second-best restaurant in the world four times and was ranked the best once. With a wine cellar (酒窖) of 60,000 bottles and traditional Catalan food, this restaurant prides itself on its incredible presentation. The menu includes flavors from all around the world, as well as innovative techniques.
    Mirazur, Menton, France
With two Michelin stars and its setting above the Mediterranean Sea, this restaurant offers amazing views along with its list of food. The restaurant includes French, Mediterranean and European cuisine that challenges all the senses. Customers said that they felt the restaurant deserved to be rated three-star. When“Rise of the Planet of the Apes”was first shown to the public last month, a group of excited animal activists gathered on Hollywood Boulevard. But they werenˈt there to throw red paint on fur-coat-wearing film stars. Instead, one activist, dressed in a full-body monkey suit, had arrived with a sign praising the filmmakers:“Thanks for not using real apes (猿)!”
The creative team behind“Apes”used motion-capture (动作捕捉) technology to create digitalized animals, spending tens of millions of dollars on technology that records an actorˈs performance and later processes it with computer graphics to create a final image (图像). In this case, one of a realistic-looking ape.
Yet“Apes”is more exception than the rule. In fact, Hollywood has been hot on live animals lately. One nonprofit(非盈利的) organization, which monitors the treatment or animals in filmed entertainment, is keeping tabs on more than 2,000 productions this year. Already, a number of films, including“Water for Elephants,”“The Hangover Part Ⅱ”and “Zookeeper,”have drawn the anger of activists who say the creatures acting in them havenˈt been treated properly.
In some cases, itˈs not so much the treatment of the animals on set in the studio that has activists worried; itˈs the off-set training and living conditions that are raising concerns. And there are questions about the films made outside the States, which sometimes are not monitored as closely as productions filmed in the Sates.

Poetry can change the way people view tile world, inspire others, mend (改善) the bonds between people and create harmony between one and another. However, to many, poetry can be considered a dying art in a world filled with technology and more advanced ways of conveying messages of art and beauty.
World Poetry Day aims to encourage people to appreciate the sentiment (情感) that poetry can create, forming meaningful relationships and expanding one's mind with regard to history and culture. It takes place every year to promote the teaching of poetry, as well as the publishing, writing, and reading of this form of writing around the world. It was declared by the United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in 1999 and they stated that their purpose for creating this day was "supporting linguistic diversity through poetic expression and increasing the opportunity for endangered languages to be heard".
There are lots of exciting ways that you can celebrate World Poetry Day. Rather than reading a poem, why not watch a poetry reading? Thanks to YouTube, we have access to all sorts of videos today, and so it should not be difficult to find a poetry reading that interests you. The live recital of a poem, especially from the author who has written it, is extremely powerful. It takes the depth of meaning of the words to a whole new level. We would recommend taking a look at readings from the likes of Hera Lindsay Bird and Jay Bernard. They're pretty incredible!
If you have children, World Poetry Day is the perfect opportunity for you to increase their awareness of this literary form and show them how much fun and exciting poetry can be. After all, not all poems are serious! Poems can make us laugh, especially those that use clever wordplay and puns (双关). You can find lots of great books of poems that have been specifically designed for children. We would recommend Roger McGough's Poetry Pie, which features more than 50 poems that will make your child laugh.
    8. Why is poetry considered a dying art by some people according to the text?
    A. Poetry is not easy to understand for many people.
    B. Poetry has been forgotten by the younger generation.
    C. A growing number of people cannot appreciate the beauty of poetry.
    D. New methods to convey messages of art and beauty have appeared.
    9. Which of the following can be one aim of World Poetry Day?
    A. To attract more people to focus on history and culture.
    B. To ease the relationships among people.
    C. To make sure this form of language is heard as much as possible.
    D. To help more people get to know the essence of poetry.
    10. What is the third paragraph mainly about?
    A. The methods to celebrate World Poetry Day.
    B. The importance of World Poetry Day.
    C. The benefits of reading poetry.
    D. The ways of protecting poetry.
    11. What can we infer from the fourth paragraph?

    C. Most poems are specifically designed for children.

    D
Can you think of three words that are completely unrelated to one another? What about four, five, or even ten? According to an international team of researchers from McGill University, Harvard University and the University of Melbourne, this simple exercise of naming unrelated words and then measuring the semantic distance (语义距离) between them could serve as an objective measure of creativity.
The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, uses the Divergent (发散的) Association Task (DAT), a four-minute, 10-word test to measure one aspect of creative potential.
The DAT was originally designed by Jay Olson, a recent PhD graduate from McGill's Department of Psychiatry, inspired by a childhood game involving thinking of unrelated words. He wondered whether a similar task could serve as a simple and elegant way to measure divergent thinking, or the ability to produce various solutions to an open-ended problem.
While studies of creativity and its nature are not new, relatively little is known about the process itself. "Creativity is fundamental to human life," explains Olson, who is now a Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard. "The more we understand its complexity, the better we can foster (培养) creativity in all its forms."
The method is an easier and simpler way to test creativity. Using the DAT, the researchers asked participants to name 10 words that were as different from each other as possible. A computational algorithm (计算算法) would then estimate the average semantic distance between the words. The more related the words were, ("cat" and "dog") the shorter the semantic difference would be, compared to less related words (such as "cat" and "book").
The team's first study highlighted the links between semantic distance and two commonly used creativity measures (the Alternative Uses Task and the Bridge-the-Associative Gap Task). This was applied to a later study with 8,500 participants from 98 countries, where the semantic distances changed only slightly by demographic variables (人口统计变数), suggesting that the measure can be used across different populations.
"Our task only measured a small part of one type of creativity," says Olson. "But these findings enable creativity assessments across larger and more diverse samples with less bias (偏差), which will finally help us better understand this fundamental human ability."
    12. What do we know about the DTA from the text?
    A. It involves thinking about related words.
    B. It asks participants to solve open-ended problems.
    C. It can test a person's divergent thinking.
    D. It was created by Jay Olson in his childhood.
    13. What is the fifth paragraph mainly about?
    A. The importance of DTA.
    B. The design process of DTA.
    C. How Jay Olson's study was carried out.
    D. How to measure a person's creativity.
    14. What conclusion can we draw from Jay Olson's studies?
    A. Semantic distance should be estimated more accurately.
    B. Jay Olson's study could help improve creativity.
    C. The DTA method is only for native English speakers.
    D. DTA is a reliable method to help study human creativity.
    15. Which of the following is the best title for the text?
    A. The Principle of DTA
    B. How to Foster Creativity
    C. The Importance of Creativity
    D. A New Way to Measure Creativity

Jenny was the only child in her home. She had a quarrel with her mother that afternoon and she ran out of the house angrily. She couldnˈt help weeping sorrowfully when she thought of the scolding(责骂) from her mother. Having wandered aimlessly in the street for hours, she felt a little hungry and wished for something to eat, but it was not possible for her, since she had nothing with her. She stood beside a stand for a while, watching the middle-aged seller busy doing his business. However, with no money in hand, she sighed(叹气) and had to leave.
The seller behind the stand noticed the young girl and asked, “Hey, girl, you want to have the noodles?”
“Oh, yes...but I donˈt have money on me…” she replied.
“Thatˈs nothing. Iˈll treat you today,” said the man. “Come in.”
The seller brought her a bowl of noodles, whose smell was so attractive. As she was eating, Jenny cried silently.
“What is it?” asked the man kindly.
“Nothing, actually I was just touched by your kindness!” said Jenny as she wiped her tears. “Even a stranger on the street will give me a bowl of noodles, while my mother drove me out of the house. She showed no care for me. She is so merciless(无情的) compared to a stranger!!”
Hearing the words, the seller smiled, “Girl, do you really think so? I only gave you a bowl of noodles and you thanked me a lot. But it is your mother who has raised you since you were a baby. Can you number the times she cooked for you? Have you expressed your gratitude to her?”
Jenny sat there, speechless(说不出话) and numb with shock; she remembered motherˈs familiar face and weathered(变形的) hands. “Why did I not think of that? A bowl of noodles from a stranger made me feel indebted(感激的), but I have never thanked my mum for what she has done for me.”

37.【答案】    Approaching the doorway, Jenny took a deep breath. When she knocked at the door, she found the door was locked and her mother was not in. Tired and sad, she sat down in front of the house. "Where could my mother be?" she wondered, "Was she still angry with me?" Again, the scene of the quarrel appeared in her mind. She remembered her rudeness to her mother. Realizing that all the scolding from her mother was due to the fact that her mother really cared a lot about her, she felt rather ashamed, and tears began to roll down her cheeks.
A gentle touch on her hair called her mind back. She raised her head and saw the familiar face of her mother. "Here you come! I've been looking for you," she said, tired and relieved. Jenny couldn't help throwing herself into her mother's arms. "Mum, I'm so sorry and thank you for all you have done for me." She expressed her sincere apology and great gratitude. Hearing this, her mother smiled patting her back gently.
