“Made in China” is having its moment now - and it’s a fashionable one. They story of Chinese fashion began in 2011 when Feiyue and Huili, both Chinese sneaker(运动鞋) brands, suddenly got international attention. Their products were seen on models all over the world. This year, Chinese sportswear brand Li Ning was at the New Your Fashion Week in September with new designs - hoodies(套头衫) and jackets decorated with Chinese characters.
And the designs may be due to the fact that China’s young people are now more confident about their own culture. Western culture doesn’t have the instant appeal(吸引力) to the young that it once had. “Today’s young people in China are active in Chinese cultural elements(元素),” Jin Qu, vice president of YOHO, an urban clothing shopping website in China, said at a cultural festival last month. “They like these elements printed on their clothes, even the brand image of laoganma - the famous chili sauce in China - which was once seen as outside of fashion. But now young people are proud of these Chinese symbols.”
In fact, many famous people in the West now have an interest in Chinese cultural elements in fashion. US singer Robyn “Rihanna” Fenty, for example, wore a shiny and heavily embroidered(绣花的) yellow gown to the 2015 Met Gala to match the gala’s theme “China: Through the Looking Glass”. The gown was designed and made by Chinese designer Guo Pei.
“We have to move from manufacturing(制造业) to service and creativity,” Chinese-American architect and designer Aric Chen once told The Financial Times. “We want to replace the words ‘Made in China’ with ‘Designed in China’.”
( ) 31. According to the passage, the products of Feiyue and Huili could be seen around the world.
( ) 32. The western culture has no appeal to Chinese young anymore.

( ) 34. Some famous people in the West are also interested in Chinese cultural elements in fashion nowadays.

Have you ever imagined going inside of a video game? That dream may soon become real. It’s called the “metaverse”.
The word is a combination(结合) of “meta”, which means beyond, and “verse”, which refers to “universe”. The word first appeared in a 1992 science fiction book called Snow Crash.
Wearing a VR headset, you can meet other people wherever they are. You can work and play with them. It will feel real because the technology can simulate(模拟) our senses. Visions(视觉), hearing, touch, and even smell.
“We’re talking about creating another reality, another world, which is as rich as the real world,” said Rev, vice president of simulation technology at NVIDIA, a US tech company.
Your location(位置) will no longer matter, says VOA News. In the metaverse, “people...would be connected at all times...” You can meet friends from other countries and go on a virtual beach vacation together. Can’t find a friend to play basketball? Jump into the metaverse and find some friends to play with or go to a concert!
Cathy Hackl, an expert in metaverse technology, said her son’s first concert was inside of a video game.” Just because it happened in a video game, it didn’t make it less real for him,” she said.
Perhaps the metaverse will change our idea of what is real.

Embroidery(刺绣) is an important art form in Chinese culture. The most famous embroidery styles are Su embroidery from Suzhou, Shu embroidery from Sichuan, Xiang embroidery from Hunan and Yue embroidery from Guangdong.
To produce embroidery products, workers need to divide each silk thread(线) into more than ten or even thirty pieces. Each piece is thinner than a single human hair. In 2016, Baidu invited Meng Dezhi, an inheritor(继承人) of Shu embroidery, to make a homepage logo for Qixi Festival. It was a small logo, but it required the use of 45 kinds of sewing technique(针法) and 35,000 stitches(针).
Since modern machines can make cheaper embroidery products today, fewer people buy handmade embroidery products. There are also very few young embroiderers. So the skill is in danger of dying out. To protect the skill, Shu embroidery, Su embroidery, Xiang embroidery and Yue embroidery were added to China’s intangible list(非物质文化遗产名录) in 2006.
Shu embroidery is the oldest of the four. It dates back to the Han Dynasty(206BC 220AD). People sold it to other countries through the South Silk Road.
Meng Dezhi, 61 years old, has been making Shu embroidery for forty-two years. She used to work at the Chengdu Shu Embroidery Factory. But in 2006, the factory went broke and Meng lost her job.
Wanting to save the art, Meng wanted to have her own place and teach Shu embroidery to others. Now, Meng is trying to save Shu embroidery by teaching in different universities. She believes that Shu embroidery stands for thousands of years of Sichuan culture and should be saved.
“I feel that I have the responsibility to pass on Shu embroidery skills to young people and let it run from generation to generation,” she said.
