Then Ss are suppsed t find ut the ne-way fare t get t the destinatin fr different kinds f transprtatin. This task gives Ss a chance t practise getting infrmatin thrugh the Internet. Later Ss are required t talk in pairs abut the fllwing six questins:(1)When are yu leaving?(2)Hw are yu ging t...?(3)When are yu arriving in/at...?(4)Where are yu staying?(5)Hw lng are yu staying in...?(6)When are yu cming back?This part is designs t smth away Ss’ difficulty in understanding the present cntinuus fr future use.
    T lead in the text,the teacher can ask Ss t discuss why a river is great r what a river can be used fr. Then tell Ss the Mekng is a great river like the Changjiang River,and it is the birthplace f ld civilizatin and lifebld f the Sutheast Asia.
    Reading skills are very imprtant fr senir students. Fr the first reading,we intend t cultivate Ss’ skimming ability. They are required t list the wrds referring t different tpgraphical features in the text. Then they are required t match these wrds with the English explanatins. Thrugh this part we can develp Ss’ ability f guessing the meanings f new wrds accrding t the cntexts. T stimulate Ss t take part in the class activity mre actively,the teacher can rganize a grup cmpetitin,t see which grup can finish the task fastest and best.T shw Ss the different tpgraphy,the teacher can present sme pictures. Later n,the teacher will teach sme ther new wrds in the text and ask Ss t prnunce these wrds crrectly. Fr the secnd reading,the teacher will present five statements fr the students t judge. This part is designed t get Ss int the habit f reading a passage as a whle,that is,t get the general idea. Anther purpse f this part is t ask Ss t pay attentin t the details.
    The teacher asks Ss t read the title and subtitle in rder t make them think abut the rganizatin f the whle passage,and this methd can help them nt nly in their understanding but als in writing a passage. T develp Ss’ scanning ability,the teacher designs five questins,sme f which are very difficult. S the teacher will help them t read between the lines,thus Ss can gradually get the ability t understand the writer’s implied meanings.
    T cnslidate the new wrds in the passage,the teacher asks Ss t finish Part 1 and Part 3 n Page 20 after class. At the same time,they are required t find ut what they shuld pay attentin t when ging traveling. This part is designed t help Ss t get the sense f prtecting themselves and nature.

    1.Mekng River—The Lifebld f Sutheast Asia
    The Mekng River is the heart and sul f mainland Sutheast Asia. The 12th lngest river in the wrld,the Mekng runs 4800 kilmeters frm its headwaters n the Tibetan Plateau(高原) thrugh Yunnan Prvince f China,Burma,Thailand,Cambdia,La PDR and Vietnam.
    Over 60 millin peple depend n the Mekng and its branches fr fd,water,transprt and many ther aspects f their daily lives.Its annual fld drught cycles are essential fr the sustainable prductin f rice and vegetables n the fldplains(洪泛区) and alng the riverbanks during the dry seasn. Knwn as the Mther f waters,the river supprts ne f the wrld’s mst diverse(多种经营的)fisheries(渔场),secnd nly t the Amazn. This vital ecsystem and lifebld f the regin is currently under threat. Over the past ten years,mre than 100 large dams have been prpsed fr the Mekng basin by institutins like the Asian Develpment Bank (ADB) and the Mekng River Cmmissin. Sme f these prjects have already been built.
    One f the greatest threats is China’s plans t cnstruct eight dams n the Upper Mekng Lancang. Tw f these dams have already been cmpleted,and cnstructin n the third prject,Xiawan,began in January 2002.These dams will have widespread impacts n the livelihds f Mekng cmmunities and n the natural eclgy f the river system.
    In Las,IRN is wrking t stp Wrld Bank supprt fr the Dam and ensure that cmmunities receive just cmpensatin fr lsses suffered due t the ADB-funded Nam and Dams. IRN is als mnitring brader reginal water resurce develpments,particularly thse funded by the ADB.
    In Thailand,IRN has been wrking with cmmunities affected by the Pak Mun and Rasi Salai dams wh are campaigning fr the gates f bth dams t be permanently pened and fr the Mun River t be restred.
    IRN is als mnitring the impacts f the Yali Falls Dam in Vietnam,which has affected cmmunities in bth Vietnam and Cambdia.
    2.the Mekng Delta
    The Mekng Delta is the bttm half f Vietnam’s tw rice baskets,the ther being the Red River Delta in the Nrth.
    This vast delta is frmed by the depsitin f the multiple tentacles and tributaries(支流) f the mighty Mekng River which has its rigin in the Tibetan highland plateau 2800 miles away.Frm its surce,the river makes its way thrugh China.
    Myanmar (Burma),Las,Cambdia and Suth Vietnam befre flwing ut int the Suth China Sea. The Mekng’s—the peple f Suth Vietnam are ften very prud f the richness and vastness f this land. When referring t the rice fields in this area,they ften say,“c bay thangcanh”,meaning the land is s large that the cranes can stretch their wings as they fly. Tday,the regin is ne f Vietnam’s highest prducer f rice crps,vegetables and fruits.
