Rising smart phone star Xiaomi is moving quickly and taking aim at Apple’s iPhone. The Chinese maker known for low-priced phones recently published a new model that Chairman Jun Lei said is comparable to Apple’s iPhone 6 but thinner, lighter and much cheaper. The phone starts at 2,299 yuan ($375), less than half the 5,288 yuan ($865) price of an iPhone 6 in China.
Xiaomi, founded in 2010, passed South Korea’s Samsung Electronics Co. in the second quarter of last year as the best-selling smart phone brand in China by number of phones sold. The company is expanding into India and other developing markets but has yet to announce plans to enter the United States or Europe.
Xiaomi “is a respected brand that already has an Apple-like following” in China, said Brian Blair, who analyzes mobile phone makers. Apple is still a relatively small player in China, selling about 45 million iPhones there last year, Blair says, but will continue to grow.
Privately held (私人控股的) Xiaomi said last year’s sales were as many as 61.1 million phones and income more than doubled to 74.3 billion yuan ($12.2 billion). The company, based in Beijing, recently received a large number of money that valued Xiaomi at $45 billion, making it one of the world’s most valuable technology brands.

Science can’t explain the power of pets, but many studies have shown that the company of pets can help lower blood pressure (血压) and raise chances of recovering from a heart attack, reduce loneliness and spread all-round good cheer.
Any owner will tell you how much joy a pet brings. A study by Karen Allen of the State University of New York measured stress (压力) levels and blood pressure in people—half of them pet owners—while they performed 5 minutes of mental arithmetic (算术) or held a hand in ice water. People completed the tasks alone, with a husband/wife, a close friend or with a pet. People with pets did it best. Those tested with their animal friends had smaller change in blood pressure and returned most quickly to normal heart rates. With pets in the room, people also made fewer mistakes than when doing in front of other partners. It seems people feel more relaxed around pets, says Allen, who thinks it may be because pets don’t judge.
A study reported last year suggests that having a pet dog not only raises your spirits but may also have an effect on your eating habits. Researchers at Northwestern Memorial Hospital spent a year studying 36 fat people and their equally fat dogs on diet-and-exercise programs; a separate group of 56 people without pets were put on a diet program. On average, people lost about 11 pounds, or 5% of their body weight. Their dogs did even better, losing an average of 12 pounds, more than 15% of their body weight. Dog owners didn’t lose any more weight than those without dogs but, say researchers, got more exercise overall—mostly with their dogs—and found it worth doing.
24. What does the text mainly discuss?
A. Pets’ value in medical research.
B. How pets help people calm down.
C. People’s opinions of keeping pets.

A. he raises a pet as a partner

26. According to Allen, why did the people do better with pets around when doing stressful tasks?
A. They have lower blood pressure.
B. They become more patient.
C. They are less nervous.
D. They are in higher spirits.
27. What does the research mentioned in the last paragraph report?

根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。选项中有两项为多余选项。
In spite of so many years of education behind us, can we confidently say we understand what it feels like to be a teacher?
The biggest misunderstanding about teaching jobs is that anyone can be a teacher. In fact, the truth is far from it. 31 They also know the teaching theory well. They should know how things should be taught and how one can be inspired to learn. Also, they need to have an idea about classroom management and students’ psychology(心理学).
Now it can be really annoying for a teacher if someone says teaching is one of the easiest jobs around, because everyone just needs to be taught for a few hours a day. 32 However, teachers work longer to come up with ways to make the knowledge appear more interesting to students and help them learn better.
33 And this is a big reason why more people decide to choose teaching as a career. However, good teachers choose to make good use of the break, by enrolling (注册) themselves for workshops on teaching, classroom management, and related things.
All teachers are not the same, as against what is widely believed. 34 Every teacher is different and has a different approach(方法)to teaching.
35 A teacher has meetings to attend, and is responsible for (对……负责) organizing school events. An important duty of a teacher is to prepare the progress report of each student and discuss it with his or her parents.
In a word, teachers ought to be respected for what they do, and we should never forget their great contribution(贡献)to our success in life.
A. A teacher has many things to do rather than just teach.
B. It is true that teachers get a lot more holidays than others.
C. A good teacher is one who motivates students to overcome challenges.
D. To begin with, teachers are people who perform well in their fields of study.
E. A statement that is true for one teacher is not necessarily true for the others.
F. And common people even believe teachers are probably overpaid when their days end at 3 pm.
G. These teachers give all they can to create an ideal learning environment for their students.
